Live and learn

Bizarre learning experience yesterday.

During the pause between back-to-back lectures I noticed that there were a lot more people in the lecture hall than there was earlier. In addition, the average age of the new people was about 50. They were all dressed in suits and seemed very eager to be there. There air in the room was dramatically different than before. Instead of the usual anemic atmosphere it was like before a play or a concert, even. It was expectant.

I spotted Matti Klinge in the audience. He was definitely not taking the course.

The lecturer looked like the epitome of a professor with his unruly, grey hair and scruffy suit jacket (all the lectures are held by different guest lecturers). Little did I know that he was Risto Alapuro, a virtual superstar of historical sociology in Finland. Hence the crowds of course freeloaders of various scholars.

All in all, I should have known better. Am ignorant and will spend week learning the campus directory.
