So far am happy with my studies at Monash university. There’s just one very weird thing. The lecturers ask questions like “Have you heard of Michel Foucault?” and “Aristotle lived before A.D., you know”.

These are not questions for university students. At home, you’re expected to have at least heard of Foucault and to know when Aristotle lived.

Last week was the best example: “The Nazis were the regime that held power in Germany from 1933 to 1945.”

This in a course that otherwise deals with Baudelaire, Russian formalists and Sigmund Freud.
